“Be My Valentine” At Avontuur Estate
 
Valentine’s is one of our favourite events to celebrate at Avontuur Estate and the restaurant and tasting room jump in annually to make this “day of love” special for all the romantics out there!

  

Chef-owners Zunia and Mel of the Restaurant always go full out by pushing the decadence envelope as far as it can go, with their sexy menu, which this year will again be the star attraction at the Valentine’s Dinner on Tuesday night, 14 February.
  

With yummy ingredients like caviar, oysters, asparagus, avo, white and dark chocolate, fillet, Fruit d’Amour and strawberries featuring in the 3 course meal (3/4 choices per course), and Avontuur’s list of award-winning wines on hand, lovers can start the evening off with a sunset experience on the terrace before moving into the restaurant for the full dinner. Want Prince Charming to sweep you off your feet this Valentine’s Day? Then look no further than Waterkloof Estate outside Somerset West – complete with white horses amidst its vines, eagerly taking bio-dynamic farming in their stride – where an exclusive six course dinner, fit for a fairy tale, will woo the senses on Tuesday, 14 February.


Perched high on the slopes of the Schapenberg, Waterkloof’s signature ‘glass box’ restaurant is set against the majestic backdrop of the estate’s amphitheatre of vineyards and the full expanse of False Bay in the distance – the perfect setting to celebrate your most romantic moments.


Enticing those with a taste for romance and the finer things in life, Chef Gregory Czarnecki’s exquisite Degustation Menu comprises six contemporary dishes each served with a matching wine.

 


Your ‘Valentine’s with a View’ dinner starts with a light Goat’s Cheese Mousse with pickled baby beetroot and walnut, served with the estate’s Circumstance Chenin Blanc 2009.


Tastebuds are then pampered with a kiss of Rainbow Trout Gravlax enriched with watercress mayonnaise and vodka dill crème fraîche, accompanied by a glass of Circumstance Sauvignon Blanc 2007. Guests will then continue this food and wine love affair with Monkfish served with crispy prawn, ginger beer compressed apple and curry, matched with the Circumstance Viognier 2010.


Next on the sumptuous bill of fare is Karan Beef, served with shallot tarte tatin, root vegetables and the estate’s elegant Circle of Life Red 2009, followed by his signature Lamb Loin and Waterkloof’s Circumstance Cabernet Sauvignon 2009.


Dining with Chef Gregory calls for a memorable occasion, so you can be sure to end the evening on a decadent high with his Texture of Chocolate festooned with passion fruit bites and paired with a flute of Steenberg Brut Chardonnay.


The entire Waterkloof estate is treated as a holistic entity and the golden thread of sustainability runs right through every aspect, from the bio-dynamic vineyards to the restaurant kitchen.


Not only do they rely on genuine horse-power as opposed to heavy machinery and tractors; Dorper sheep or as they call them, ‘nature’s weed-eaters; the manure of their own Dextor cows for fertilizing the vineyards; and chickens who keep the vineyards in tip top shape. They even use their own produce in the restaurant.


The Valentine’s dinner at Waterkloof costs R550 per person which includes all the wines on the evening or R450 per person excluding the wine pairings and each guest will be welcomed with a complimentary flute of Cap Classique on arrival.
